INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAMS & RESOURCES

All prevention programs are offered free of charge, thanks to funding from Children's Miracle Network and Foundation of Saint Joseph's Hospital.

Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield has a number of injury prevention programs in place. Injury prevention is the best form of trauma care. With help from the Children's Miracle Network, Saint Joseph's is able to provide the children in our communities instructions on being safe and staying healthy. Injury prevention programs offered at Saint Joseph's include:

Bike Safety
Teaches kindergarten through 3rd grade students how to stay safe on their bikes using some basic bicycle safety rules. Proper fit of bike helmets as well, as why it is important to wear them whenever bicycling, is also stressed to these young students.

Think First for Kids
Teaches 1st through 3rd grade students about safety behaviors that can lead to lifelong habits. This curriculum-based brain and spinal cord injury prevention program includes lessons about the brain and spinal cord, creative problem solving, motor vehicle safety, bicycle safety, playground and recreation safety, water safety and safety around weapons.

Think First for Teens
Teaches 6th through 12th grade students that every decision they make has consequences. It demonstrates how they can take the responsibility to prevent brain and spinal cord injuries that can have devastating results. The curriculum includes a brain and spinal cord anatomy lesson, actual video of young people who have experienced injuries and a session with a survivor of a brain and spinal cord injury who shares their personal experiences with the students.

EN CARE (Emergency Nurses Cancel Alcohol-Related Emergencies)
Educates high school aged students how they can practice safe behaviors in regard to their awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving. Seat belt usage is also discussed so the students can understand the impact of their decisions. This program graphically depicts the potentially dangerous and devastating results of such activities.

Senior Steps
Teaches the older adult the importance of activity regardless of age. Reinforces the importance of continued activity through discussion, viewing a video, and receiving home exercise program instruction. Encourages individuals to maintain functional independence throughout their life.
