MEET THE TRAUMA CAREGIVER TEAM
Trauma Services would not be complete without the many team players that work in this facility. Trauma Care is a team sport and requires the dedication of many people working together: physicians, physician assistants, nurses, social workers, respiratory therapists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, spiritual services, pharmacists and dieticians ... all to improve patient care and outcomes.
Gaby A. P. Iskander, MD Dr. Iskander is the Trauma Medical Director. The role of the Trauma Medical Director is essential. The Medical Director creates the physician driven practices and relationships that move patients smoothly through the care continuum. Dr. Iskander has a number of administrative responsibilities as well: performance improvement, protocol development, addressing deficiencies and coordinating budgetary processes.
Trauma requires the dedication of many physician specialties such as neurosurgery, orthopedics, plastics, oral maxillofacial and physical medicine to provide optimal care to injured patients. We have five core physicians who staff the Trauma/Surgical ICU Service; all of our core trauma surgeons are fellowship trained in critical care or trauma, a rare find compared to other trauma centers.
Neil Neinast As Trauma Registrar, Neil's responsibilities include collecting injury data, entering that data into the Trauma Registry, creating and running reports. Data from those reports is used in performance improvement, epidemiology, injury prevention and research. In his role of trauma data management, Neil works closely with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager.
Terry Nichols, RN Terry is our Trauma Nurse Clinician. As trauma is a team sport, Terry ensures that all members on the trauma care team work cohesively for the good of the patient. Trauma patients often have multiple needs and Terry helps advocate on behalf of the patient making their stay at Saint Joseph's Hospital as smooth as possible.
