Saint Joseph's Hospital has been an important part of Wisconsin health care for more than 100 years. In 1890, Mother Frances Streitel, foundress of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, agreed to establish a hospital in the young city of Marshfield. That year, four patients were admitted. Much has changed since the Sisters first arrived in Marshfield. Today, Saint Joseph's Hospital, with 504 beds, is one of the largest hospitals and the only major rural referral center in Wisconsin. More than 19,000 inpatients and 38,000 outpatients receive care here each year.

One thing hasn't changed - our mission to improve the health and well being of all people, especially the poor, in the communities we serve. Our commitment to provide high quality, compassionate care and modern technology, with special attention to the personal needs of each individual, also remains as it was more than 100 years ago.
