Saint Clare's Hospital Management Team

Mary Krueger
President/COO
 

Mary joined Saint Clare's Hospital in December, 2003.  Prior to that, she spent 26 years at Marshfield Clinic, most recently as Division Administrator.  She also previously served as Director of Performance Improvement, Assistant Director of Marshfield Operations, Manager of Marshfield Cancer Center, Oncology Nurse Clinician of the Chemotherapy Unit, and Staff Nurse. 

Mary earned an Associate Degree in nursing from North Central Technical Institute (now North Central Technical College), and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Mount Scenario College in Ladysmith.  She also earned a Masters degree in administrative medicine at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

"I've seen and experienced every side of the management of health care – from the perspective of a nurse, manager, director and administrator," said Mary.  "Saint Clare's offers a set of exciting challenges – the creation of a new hospital, a new environment, a new facility of caring."

Larry Hegland, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Hegland joined Saint Clare's Hospital in September 2004, arriving from Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware, where he was Vice President of Medical Affairs.  He was also the Medical Director at Southern Delaware Surgery Center.

Dr. Hegland attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology. He then pursued his Masters of Science in medical microbiology from the University of Wisconsin, and later earned his Medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School.  He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Northwestern University/McGaw Medical Center in Chicago where he also served as Chief Resident.  Most recently, Dr. Hegland received a Masters Degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rachael Yaron
Vice President, Quality & Safety
 

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Rachel spent over 20 years in various roles at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.  Most recently, she was Director of Performance Improvement.  She also served as Special Projects Coordinator, Nursing Information Systems Coordinator, Patient Placement Coordinator, Manager – Hospice Services, and Staff Nurse, among other positions.

Rachel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Masters degree in management information systems from Kennedy-Western University in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Colleen Hoerneman
Vice President - Patient Care Services

Colleen came to Saint Clare's after 23 years at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. During her tenure at Saint Joseph's, she held several positions, most recently as a director of patient Care for 14 years. Prior to that time she also held several other management positions in patient care services and was a faculty member of Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing.

Colleen earned a Masters degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Stewart Watson, M.D.
Medical Director of Emergency Services
 

Dr. Watson has practiced clinical Emergency Medicine in high volume, high acuity Emergency Departments for the last 18 years.  He has also been involved in administrative and leadership activities during that time, serving as Medical Director and Chair, EMS Medical Director and Director of Quality Improvement, most recently serving as Director of Emergency Services and Chairman at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. 

Stew earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Dartmouth College in 1976 (graduating Magna Cum Laude), and his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.  He served his internship in general surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois, and his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center.  He is returning to his native Wisconsin.

Richard H. Bailey, M.D.
Medical Director of Hospitalist Services

Dr. Bailey is board certified in Internal Medicine and was a pioneer in the development of the hospitalist movement in this country.  He comes to Saint Clare's Hospital from Cleveland, Ohio where he was on the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and served on the Board of Governors of the University Suburban Health Center.  He is accomplished in the areas of medical decision making, quality improvement, and medical education.

Dr. Bailey earned an Honors Bachelor of Science degree from Saint Louis University in 1988 (graduating Magna Cum Laude), and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Medicine in 1993 (graduating Magna Cum Laude) where he was selected to Alpha Omega Alpha (National Honor Medical Society).  He served his residency and was later Chief Resident in the Department of Medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland.

Ellen Schumann, MD
Medical Director of Women and Family Services

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Ellen was a pediatrician at Marshfield Clinic. She attended the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors, as well as her medical degree. She later completed a pediatric residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Anne Rifleman
Nursing Director of Emergency Services

Before joining Saint Clare's, Anne was the emergency department and urgent care supervisor at Saint Michael's Hospital in Stevens Point.  Former positions held at Saint Michael's included nursing supervisor, staff nurse in the emergency department, and staff nurse in the ICU and PACU.

Anne earned her nursing diploma from St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (graduating Summa Cum Laude) from Viterbo College in La Crosse.

Carmel Galster
Nursing Director of Surgical Services

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Carmel was Manager of Ambulatory Surgery at Marshfield Clinic-Wausau Center, where she was responsible for leadership, planning, budgeting, human resources, quality and customer service at the Ambulatory Service Center.  She previously worked in the Department of Surgery as an orthopedic/spinal/neurosurgery specialty team leader at Wausau Hospital.

Carmel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Viterbo College in La Crosse.

Dale Evert
Director of Food and Nutrition

Prior to joing Saint Clare's, Dale held the following positions: Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Norton Health System (Kentucky); Director of Food and Nutrition Services - University Hospitals Health System (Ohio); General Manager – Aramark Healthcare Support Services (Illinois); General Manager – Aramark – Evanston Hospital (Illinois).  Dale attended Madison Area Technical College – school of quantity food preparation, and the University of Wisconsin – Stout, studying hotel and restaurant management.

Mary Nickel
Director of Medical Staff Support & Clinical Quality

Before joining Saint Clare's, Mary was the Director of Quality Management at St. Mary's Medical Center (Tennessee); Director of Primary Care Research Program at the Wausau Health Foundation; and Director of Performance Improvement and Clinical Information – Aspirus VNA Home Health.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.  She is a certified professional in healthcare quality.

Kaye Connor
Director of Health Information Management

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Kaye was Director of Medical Information at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill.  Prior to that, she was a Registries Team Leader at Aspirus Health Care, and a Coding and Quality Assurance Coordinator at Aspirus.  She earned her Associates degree in health information technology from Moraine Park Tech College, in West Bend, WI.

Margie Hackbarth
Director of Foundation

Before joining Saint Clare's, Margie was the Director of Community Relations at Upland Hills Health, Inc., in Dodgeville, WI. There she had leadership roles in marketing, volunteers and fundraising.  She brings strategic planning, capital campaign, marketing research and planning experience to this role.   She attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism; she also attended the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse, where she completed a Health Care Management Certificate Program.  She is a fellow in the Wisconsin Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society.  Her personal interests include family activities, camping, tae kwon do martial arts and home decorating.

Gary Robb
Director of Pharmacy

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Gary was the CEO/President of Omnicare Long Term Care Pharmacy Location in Northern Illinois, and prior to that, was Director of Pharmacy at Good Samaritan Health Center in Merrill, and Pharmacy Manager at Howard Young Health Care.  Gary attended the University of Iowa where he earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy.  His personal interests include fishing, golfing, camping, and running. 

Jamie Schaefer
Director of Managed Care & Business
Development

Jamie has over 19 years of group health insurance experience with an emphasis on managed care plans.  His background includes work with provider network evaluation, product pricing, administrative service agreements, benefit reserve calculations, and risk sharing arrangements.

He comes to Saint Clare's from Wausau Benefits, a nationally recognized third party administrator.  Previously, Jamie worked at Wausau Insurance Companies, most recently as a Product Director in the HMO Finance unit.

An Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Jamie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire.

Julie Beeney
Director of Critical Care Services

Julie, a registered nurse, said she's excited to be part of such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at Saint Clare's. Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Julie was supervisor of patient logistics at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Her department was responsible for coordinating all admissions, transfers within and discharges out of the 710-bed licensed facility. She had also served as staff nurse/charge nurse in CVICU, SICU, CCU, MICU, PICU and the ED.

Julie graduated from Methodist Medical Center of Illinois School of Nursing in Peoria. She is a Six Sigma Green Belt, responsible for (6) Six Sigma projects within her department.

Shelly Parsells
Manager - Family Birth Center

Prior to joining Saint Clare's, Shelly worked at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in the New Beginnings Birthing Center and held various clinical and management positions during her 17 years with the hospital. Shelly has clinical experience in all areas of Obstetrics including labor & delivery and level 2 nursery care. She also held the position of charge nurse for the normal newborn & special care nurseries prior to taking over as director of the obstetric department. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing prior to beginning her clinical roles. Shelly continues her passion for maternal/child nursing and women's health.

Sharee Hurtgen, SSM
Patient Advocate, Saint Clare's Hospital and The Diagnostic & Treatment Center

Sister Sharee Hurtgen is a member of Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother. She joined Saint Clare's in 2005 as patient advocate for Saint Clare's Hospital and The Diagnostic & Treatment Center at the Weston Regional Medical Center. Sister Sharee is also a corporate board member of Ministry Health Care, as well as a board member of the SSM Fundacion in the Dominican Republic.

Prior to arriving at Saint Clare's, she served as director / counselor at Guest House AODA Counseling Services in Milwaukee, and also 
served in a similar capacity at YMCA Riverwest Human Services in Milwaukee. She has also served as hospital administrator at Saint Jude Hospital in Saint Lucia, West Indies, and in several different roles at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, including vice president of nursing / clinical services.

Sister Sharee earned a Master of Science degree in psychiatric nursing as psychiatric clinical specialist from the University of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Marquette University, and diploma in nursing from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Sister Sharee also holds AODA certification as a CADCIII and CCSII clinical supervisor.

Thomas P. Doering D.O.
Medical Director of Surgical Services

Thomas P Doering, D.O. is Medical Director of Surgical Services for Saint Clare's Hospital. An Obstetrics and Gynecology specialist at Marshfield Clinic Wausau and Weston Centers, he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University-College of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences, Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Doering completed an internship at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Akron General Medical Center, Akron, Ohio. Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Doering Has a particular practice interest in providing patient care for patients with Infertility issues and High Risk Obstetrics.
