FAMILY CENTERED CARE
It's all in the family—on the Birth Center and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Saint Joseph's Hospital.
Family Centered Care recognizes the vital role that the entire family plays in ensuring the health and well being of the infant and mother. That's why on both hospital units, mothers, fathers and/or their support network, are encouraged to participate as fully and often as possible, in their baby's care. It's a new way of thinking about the relationships among women, their families and health care providers.
All families, even those struggling with difficult life circumstances, bring important strengths to their maternity health care experiences. Family-centered providers on the Birth Center and in the NICU, acknowledge that emotional, social and development support are integral to the care of mother and baby. This approach builds on individual and family strengths, and involves women and families in all aspects of the planning, delivery and evaluation of maternity and infant care services. |
