Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield is the only regional medical center in Central Wisconsin to offer a specialized intensive care unit exclusively for children. The 8-bed Pediatric ICU is for patients between 28 days and 18 years of age who require frequent monitoring and critical care interventions.
A multi-disciplinary team conducts rounds on all patients each day, and each patient's care is managed by a pediatric intensivist (a physician with advance training in the care of special needs pediatric patients who require the highest standard of care).
In the Pediatric ICU, patients include trauma populations, as well as children with a variety of medical/surgical diagnoses.
Some of the specialized equipment used on the PICU includes ventilators, specialized beds and cribs to accommodate patients with special needs, cardio-respiratory monitoring, computer charting and documentation, peritoneal dialysis monitoring and specialized syringe pumps. |
