SCHOOL OF RADIOGRAPHY

Saint Joseph's Hospital School of Radiography was started in 1956 with approval being granted in 1957. Marshfield Clinic became a major affiliate in 1989 in order to enhance the clinical education of the students. The two-year program leads to a diploma in Radiography.

Since its inception, the school has graduated approximately 300 radiographers who have gone on to work in a wide variety of professional activities throughout the world. Also, a number of graduates have entered other Radiography related professions such as:

  • Sonography
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Special Procedures
  • Computerized Tomography
  • MRI

The Radiology Departments at Saint Joseph's Hospital and Marshfield Clinic are both "filmless," which means their radiography procedures are computerized. The images are digital - not analogue, and can be manipulated electronically via a computer.

The Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother founded Saint Joseph's Hospital in 1890. Since then, it has had six major expansions, and is now a teaching tertiary referral hospital licensed for 500+ beds. The Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals (JACHO) has continuously accredited the Hospital since 1920, when it was one of the first to receive such recognition.

The Hospital, which is part of the Ministry Health Care network of hospitals, clinics and physicians, has an employee base of more than 2,400. It serves as a comprehensive tertiary referral medical center, and offers a wide range of specialty services. Its medical staff includes more than 350 Marshfield-based providers of the 700+ physician specialists of Marshfield Clinic.

Saint Joseph's Hospital shares with the Clinic a service area that encompasses central and northern Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Hospital also receives a number of referrals from other areas in the state, and in past years has admitted patients from several other states, as well as some foreign countries.

The Hospital serves a number of other institutions of higher education through its teaching affiliations, including:

  • UW-Madison Medical School
  • UW-Stevens Point, UW-La Crosse
  • UW-Stout, UW-Superior
  • UW-River Falls, UW-Eau Claire
  • several Wisconsin Technical Colleges
