Introduction Letter

Dear Prospective Intern:

Thank you for your interest in our internship program. Two Child Life or Recreation Therapy (with minor or strong emphasis in Child Development) interns (or similar fields) will be selected for the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Internship lengths are 16 weeks, 40 hours/week. Early application is recommended.

***ALL REQUIRED COURSE WORK MUST BE COMPLETE PRIOR TO STARTING YOUR INTERNSHIP***

Students are required to have:

1. College transcripts (student copy ok) and a list of current course work.

2.  A Medical Terminology course is REQUIRED for this internship. Also TR students focusing on dual certification are required to take both Child and Adolescent development, beyond the Life-Span course.

3. Minimum of 50 volunteer hours with well children, additional 50 hours with hospitalized and/or children with disabilities is preferred.

4. Mandatory readings prior to internship include:

  Psychosocial Care of Children in Hospitals: A Clinical Practice Manual

5. Two letters of recommendation.

6. A current resume (include education and field experiences).

7. Child Life Council Coursework Review is highly recommended. Fee is $35.00 and can be found on Child Life Council website http://www.childlife.org/Certification/Getting%20Certified/CourseWorkReview.cfm

8. Current immunization record (upon acceptance of internship) including written verification of a negative TB test, positive Varicella titer (chicken pox), positive Rubeola (measles) titer, and positive Rubella titer. Student Health form can be obtained from Child Life Specialist (upon acceptance)

9. University contract with hospital (upon acceptance of internship)

10. Background Check (upon acceptance of internship)

11. Completed intern application form.

If after reviewing the following information, you are still interested in an internship at our facility, the application must be completed and returned by the following dates:

Summer (May - Aug.)   February 1st   March 1st

After reviewing the application, I will notify qualified candidates to schedule an interview.

Students receive an employee discount in the hospital cafeteria and a hospital parking sticker. This will allow you to park in hospital employee parking lots. Housing is free and available on a first come basis.
