Patients' Responsibilities

Provision of Information

You have the responsibility to provide accurate and complete
information about present complaints, past illnesses, hospitalizations,
medications, and other matters relating to your health to the best of your
abilities. You are responsible for reporting whether you clearly
understand a course of treatment and to request additional information and
clarification.

Compliance Instructions

You are responsible for following the treatment plan recommended by
the practitioner primarily responsible for your care. This may include
following instructions or keeping appointments and notifying the
responsible practitioner or the Hospital if you are unable to do so.

Refusal of Treatment

You are responsible for your actions if you refuse treatment or do
not follow the practitioner's instructions.

Payment of Charges

You are responsible for meeting your financial obligations or making
us aware of your financial hardship. You are responsible for understanding
the requirements of your insurance plan and for providing necessary
information for insurance claims.

Hospital Rules and Regulations

You are responsible for following Hospital rules and regulations
affecting patient care and conduct, including the "No Smoking" policy.

Advance Directives

You are responsible for ensuring that the medical complex has a copy
of your written advance directive, if you have one. You are responsible
for informing your physician and other caregivers of your care wishes if
you do not have an advance directive.

Respect and Consideration

You are responsible for being considerate of the rights of other
patients and the Hospital personnel and for assisting in the control of
noise. You are responsible for being respectful of the property of other
persons and of the Hospital and for following Hospital policy regarding
number of visitors.

Concerns or Complaints

At Saint Joseph's Hospital your responsibility is to tell us if you
are not satisfied with your care. Your comments or complaints need to be
shared initially with your direct care provider and
the management of the unit you are staying on so they can be
addressed appropriately and in a timely manner. We encourage you to allow
us to provide the avenue and support for filing your grievance, as we do
not want you to feel confused by the system. If you believe your rights as
a patient at Saint Joseph's Hospital have not been respected, please
contact our Patient Representatives. They will listen to your concerns and
facilitate the process to handle them efficiently and in a timely manner,
ensuring your integrity and autonomy.

Contacts

Our top priority is to provide you the best in quality health care at
Saint Joseph's Hospital. You have the right to voice any questions,

grievances without coercion, discrimination or reprisal and to receive
prompt resolution. Your resources for contact would be:

  • your primary care provider

  • the Unit Manager
  • a Patient Representative
    • Sister Sharon Rollings
    • Julie Haupt

The effectiveness of patient care and satisfaction with the course of treatment depends, in part, on the patient fulfilling certain responsibilities.
