Car seat safety check offered

Marshfield Sunrise Rotary Club and Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital are teaming up to offer a car seat safety check from 4-6 p.m. Monday, August 17 in a southeast hospital garage area located off Western Street.

The community service is part of the 2008/2009 Rotary District 6250 Initiatives to “Reduce Child Mortality in Our District and in our World.” The club has provided the funds for the safety checks, which will be offered by Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital certified child passenger safety technicians.

“Please allow 30 to 60 minutes for the safety check and education session. Bring your child, car seat and instruction manual, if available, to the safety check and certified child passenger safety technicians will work with you to ensure you are using your child’s care seat correctly,” said Heather Krzykowski, a registered nurse from Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital and coordinator of the car seat safety checks. “We will also check for recalls on your child’s care seat and will check seatbelts and booster seats for older children.”

Rotary has a history of saving lives. In 1985, Rotary made a historic commitment to immunize all of the world’s children against polio. Rotary is the largest private-sector contributor to the global polio eradication campaign.

The Marshfield Sunrise Rotary fundraising efforts, namely the Sunrise Rotary Roses and the Rotary Service Auction, allow the club to contribute to the community with monetary donations as well as through service above self by its members.

Participants can enter the safety check by either St. Joseph Avenue or Oak Street. For questions, call Krzykowski at 387-7083.
