A little about myself:

My hometown is Marathon, Wisconsin. In my free time I enjoy reading and spending time with my husband, family and friends.

Why did I choose to do a residency?

Last year, during my General Practice Residency, I enjoyed participating in the variety of pharmacy practice areas, but didn’t find a clinical specialty that was clearly my passion. I found myself most interested in non-clinical areas of pharmacy practice, such as finance, supply chain, operations and leadership. When the opportunity was presented to me to be the first-ever PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy Administrative Resident for Ministry Health Care, it seemed like a perfect next-step in my career development.

Why did I choose Saint Joseph’s Hospital?

My previous experience working at St. Joseph's Hospital as a resident assured me that I would be able to excel as an administrative pharmacist within this organization. The quality of the pharmacy leadership team, in addition to the vision for excellence for the pharmacy department was something I wanted to be a part of.

What rotations will I be doing?

The PGY-2 Health System Pharmacy administrative residency is designed with 2-week core rotations in various practice areas, followed by a longitudinal component offering more in-depth learning and participation in the administrative process at both the local and system levels. Examples of experiences I will have this year are: medication safety, leadership, project management, supply chain, business plan development, information systems, clinical management, finance, and quality and regulatory management. During the next year, I will complete Lean Six Sigma training, and have been accepted into the 2010 class of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Leadership Academy. I am also conducting a research project that aims to identify areas of opportunity for standardizing drug purchases across the 15 hospitals in the Ministry Health Care system.

Future plans/interests:

Upon completion of the PGY-2 Residency, I look forward to taking a place within Ministry Health Care as a leader in pharmacy.
