(Tomahawk, WI) Community Blood Center blood drives throughout the Northwoods play a crucial role in ensuring that our local hospitals receive an ample, steady blood supply. 100% of the blood collected from area residents stays in the Northwoods.
The Community Blood Center annually recognizes organizations for their exemplary blood drive recruitment efforts. For the third year in a row, Sacred Heart Hospital received an Award of Excellence as a result of its 2008 blood drives. 352 blood donors were recruited for the Sacred Heart drives. Of that, 276 good units were collected. When you donate at a blood drive, the Community Blood Center separates the blood into three components; plasma, platelets, and red packed cells. Each component may help save someone’s life, which means that you can save 3 lives per donation. The donors from Sacred Heart Hospital saved 828 lives!!!
“I commend Sacred Heart Hospital, its staff and volunteers, for its outstanding leadership and commitment to the life-saving act of donating blood. Its support helps to ensure the Community Blood Center continues to meet 100% of the needs of local patients”, said Alan Cable, President Community Blood Center. “Blood component usage continues to increase both locally and nationwide. In order for the CBC to meet the need, it depends on volunteer donors and the generosity of host organizations, such as Sacred Heart Hospital.”
