Sacred Heart Hospital Offers Childbirth Classes

March 5, 2009

Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk offers prepared childbirth classes designed for the expectant mother and her coach.  The purpose of these classes is to prepare the expectant mother for labor and delivery and to provide instruction on the care of the new baby.  The classes are taught by Kay Kissinger, RN, who is certified in the specialty of inpatient maternity nursing.

Classes include relaxation techniques and Lamaze breathing methods, AV aids, a lending library, and instructional materials.  Previous class members have met for a potluck get-together with their infants a few months after the birth.  Families discuss birth experiences and exchange ideas regarding infant care.

The fee for the class is $20.  Upcoming classes will be held March 16, March 23 and March 30 in the Spruce Room at Sacred Heart Hospital.  It is recommended that the mother begin classes near the seventh month of pregnancy so the couple will finish close to the expected delivery date.  For more information or to register, please contact Kay Kissinger, RN at 715.453.4140.
