In celebration of American Heart month in February, the Heart Care Team of Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care will present “The Magical Method of Managing your Heart,” a CPR Anytime training session and education event at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston. The CPR Anytime training session begins at 6 p.m. followed by the educational presentation at 7 p.m. on Thursday February 12, in the Saint Clare’s Hospital Conference Center. Participants should use parking lot and entrance #3 on the campus of the Weston Regional Medical Center to access the program. There is no charge for this free program, but registration is required by calling Ministry Medical Group in Weston at 715.393.3900. The CPR Anytime training session will be led by certified CPR trainers from the Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care Heart Care Team. As a part of the program, each participant will receive a CPR Anytime Kit and be encouraged to bring the kit home to help train their friends and families. Each CPR Anytime Kit contains a training DVD and a manikin, which inflates to practice ventilation and compression techniques that are part of performing CPR. “The person who receives the CPR Anytime kit can continue to review and practice those techniques at home as well as share the kit with family members,” said Liz Sherwood, Marshfield Clinic CPR instructor. Ministry Medical Group Internal Medicine Specialist Mark Capriolo, M.D., FACP will join with Marshfield Clinic Cardiologist Rohit Srivastava, M.D., FACC for the educational session which will discuss discussion on heart disease and how to introduce healthy habits into your daily routine with the help of family, friends and your healthcare provider. “Unfortunately, there’s no way to predict a heart attack,” said Capriolo. “As a health-conscious person, the best you can do understand your risks so you can make the lifestyle changes necessary to control them.” “The Magical Method of Managing Your Heart” will feature important information on understanding risk factors, signs and symptoms and treatment options for heart disease. “Studies of the blood vessels of young people who died of other causes has told us that heart disease often develops at a young age and silently lays the groundwork for a disabling or fatal heart attack several decades later,” added Srivastava. The Marshfield Clinic and Ministry Health Care Heart Care Team is the recipient of a $54,000 grant to provide American Heart Association “CPR Anytime Kits” to assist in the implementation of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation training program that is simple and convenient to use.
