Spirit Medical Transport Services Expands Intercept Services at Saint Clare's Hospital in Weston
WESTON, WI--Ministry Health Care’s Spirit Medical Transport Services will soon be providing greater access to advanced life support service to the people of Marathon County. Starting May 1, Spirit Medical Transportation Services will provide dedicated intercept responses from its Weston base at Saint Clare’s Hospital.
With this expanded service, a paramedic response unit will respond to accident scenes and/or ambulances coming to the hospital when a situation requires an advanced level of care that the ambulance crew cannot perform. Paramedics can provide advanced medical care and have emergency lifesaving capabilities that other levels of EMS personnel do not deliver.
While this service is not new, the addition of a dedicated emergency response vehicle with trained staff and life saving equipment and medications significantly enhances the availability of the service, which until now has been exclusively provided by the staff of the Spirit interfacility ambulance team. The availability of paramedics and nurses with advanced training and equipment can dramatically improve a patient’s chances of recovery as treatment can begin on the scene or en route to the hospital. Depending on the need, the intercept service can go directly to the scene or meet the ambulance on its way into the hospital
“With a dedicated intercept service, we will always have the ability to get our advanced medical transport personnel to the scene of an accident or medical emergencies within minutes of a call,” noted Heong P’ng, M.D., Medical Director of the Emergency Services at Saint Clare’s Hospital. “Many times EMS, those first on the scene request assistance from us based on the nature of the emergency. This new program will allow us to get paramedic staff to a requesting service in minutes to provide care on site and/or during the trip to the emergency room.”
The Spirit Medical Transport Services program will cover a radius of approximately twenty-five miles around Weston ranging from Hatley to Edgar. The Spirit Intercept Service will be deployed through dispatch services at the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.
Ministry Health Care’s Spirit Medical Transportation Services has been providing ground and air transport to the people of central and northern Wisconsin for over fifteen years. Spirit air is based in Marshfield at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Additional ground base Spirit medical transportation teams are dispatched from Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, Howard Young Medical Center, Woodruff and Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. The program offers services to communities throughout the region to help meet emergency and inter-facility transportation needs.
The newest member of the Ministry Health Care system sponsored by the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother, Saint Clare’s Hospital is a 110-bed all-digital provider of quality, compassionate care in central Wisconsin offering a wide range of primary and specialty care.
