HFA Annual Teleconference: Cancer & End of Life Care

This popular annual event will be held March 24, 12:15-3:30pm at the UW Extension office in Wausau. The live national broadcast will address care options related to cancer diagnoses, as well as loss and grief reactions for patients, families and professional caregivers. The popular teleconference will also examine psychosocial aspects of cancer, pain management and ethical issues related to the disease. Ongoing Support Groups

The following support groups are open-ended, and do not require pre-registration. Any adult in the community who has experienced a death is invited to attend.

• Living with Grief is a free monthly adult drop-in group for individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. Hosted by Ministry Home Care and Good Samaritan Health Center, in partnership with the Merrill area churches, this group is held at Good Samaritan Health Center, 601 South Center Avenue in Merrill the second Tuesday of each month, 6-7:30pm. • Living with Loss is a grief support group that meets the fourth Thursday of every month, 10-11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 3200 N. Mountain Road in Rib Mountain.
• Grief Support Group is a monthly adult gathering for individuals and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. These groups provide a caring community for learning about grief, finding support, sharing memories, and identifying feelings. This group meets the fourth Monday of every month, 7-8:30pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1410 Rogers Street in Stevens Point.
• Younger Surviving Spouse Group is a unique support group for young- to mid-life adults whose spouse has died. This monthly gathering provides a safe environment for sharing memories, feelings, and concerns with others who have had similar experiences. The group meets the third Monday of every month, 7-8:30pm, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 900 Brilowski Road in Stevens Point.
• The Widow & Widower Social Group meets the second Wednesday of each month for dinner and the last Friday of each month for breakfast (sites/times to be determined). Call the hospice office for specifics.
• Surviving Spouse Social Outings In addition to the regular gatherings of the social group, various activities for small groups are offered. Included in these outings are potlucks, bowling, golfing, playing cards, and attending the theater. Please call for information or to receive the monthly newsletter of events.
