Pill bottles collected for ministry in Dominican Republic

WOODRUFF — When Cathy Iverson, Howard Young Health Care (HYHC) Auxiliary, met Sister Maria this past summer, she learned about the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother ministry work in the Dominican Republic. Iverson asked what she could do to help.

Pill bottles. Collect pill bottles.

In the Dominican Republic, Sister Bernie receives pills in bulk and divides them into plastic baggies. Pill bottles, rather than baggies, would make pill distribution much easier.

With the help of the pharmacy at HYHC and the community, Iverson collected eight boxes of pill bottles. She presented them to Sister Bernie on September 15 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rhinelander during a presentation of Sister Bernie’s work in the Dominican Republic.

“Meeting Sister Bernie made me feel more connected to the ministry and gives even more meaning to the collection,” said Cathy Iverson.

Iverson will continue to collect pill bottles for Sister Bernie’s return trip to the Northwoods next fall. If you would like to donate your used pill bottles, they may be dropped off at the Monticello entrance of the Howard Young Medical Center. Only small pill bottles are needed (aspirin, vitamin and any other type).
