Residents of Door County Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility got together and raised $250 along with 70 items of food for the food pantry during Ministry’s Mission & Values Week.
Mission and Values Week is an annual celebration at Ministry Health Care that coincides with the Feast of the Sorrowful Mother. This company-wide celebration is shared in a way that educates, renews and reinforces their importance in the ministry. During an SNF Resident Council Meeting, Jodi Falk, Activity Director of DCMH’s Skilled Nursing Facility and member of the DCMH Mission & Values team spoke recently about the event. Jodi introduced some of the Mission and Value activities that were planned for the week and it didn’t take long for a few of the SNF residents to decide they wanted to help as well.
Last year a few of the residents decided to sell popcorn to raise money to purchase a water filter to help Sister Bernadette Palma’s mission in the Dominican Republic. This year, the SNF residents set out to top last year’s accomplishment. Not only did they sell popcorn again this year, but they also added chex-mix to their product line. Their charity of choice this year is the local food pantry. Many residents also donated nickels they won from playing bingo and purchased $25 worth of canned goods. Through all of their efforts, they raised $250 and collected 70 items of food for “Feed My People” food pantry.
The residents that helped sell the popcorn and chex-mix were volunteers in the community prior to moving DCMH’s Skilled Nursing Facility. As one of them stated, “just because we live in nursing home doesn’t mean we can’t do things for others”.
