Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation

History of the Foundation

The Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation was created over 15 years ago with the mission to develop and manage giving opportunities that support the health care needs of our community.

Since that time, thousands of donations have been made to help create new services, update technology and renovate aging facilities at Door County Memorial Hospital.  The generosity of these donors has lead to the renovation of the Emergency Department and Radiology Department in 1989.  In 1993, numerous fund-raising activities made the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit possible.  With the strong support of the Auxiliary, the Chapel and Chapel Courtyard became a reality in 1997.

The rewards of these gifts can also be seen in the annual scholarships given to students pursuing health care careers.  The Arthur and Laura Bertschinger, Barbara Vana and Auxiliary Scholarship programs distribute over $20,000 annually to students in need.

How to Contribute

Contributions are needed to continue funding the many important programs and services that might not otherwise be available.  Those who wish to make a positive impact on the health of the community may contribute through the following methods:

  • Unrestricted Donation A general donation that is used for our greatest current need.
  • Restricted Gift A gift directed for use by a specific hospital department or program.
  • Endowment Fund A gift which is combined with other endowment directed gifts for current and long-term objectives. Endowments preserve the contributions' principal and fund projects through the interest earned on the fund. As the endowment grows, more dollars are available to support hospital programs.
  • Memorial Gift A gift in memory of a family member or friend. The gift may be directed for a specific department, program or the endowment fund.
  • Wills and Bequests Individuals may designate the Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation as a testamentary beneficiary. Please consult your personal financial counselor when considering these gifts.

Recognition of your donation follows the following categories. All gifts given to the Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation are credited on a cumulative basis. As you give regularly, you have the opportunity to support the hospital at different giving levels.
